Archival Prints

Fine art prints of the images on this site are available for purchase. I print all images personally, using archival-quality materials. The method used is called “pigment on paper”, or some galleries refer to it as “archival pigments”. Images are generally printed in open editions and signed and dated on the verso. There is also a discrete signature in the lower-right border on the front of the image in most cases.

Currently, I make prints with Canon imagePROGRAF printers using LUCIA pigment inks. These printers and inks are designed specifically for fine quality photographic printing. Wilhelm Image Research rates these inks among the most archival photographic printing materials, and estimates longevity of color prints made with these pigment inks on quality paper to resist discernible fading for nearly 100 years. Monochrome (black and white) images using this process can last much longer. This far exceeds most traditional prints, including Cibachrome and other quality processes. Display and storage methods have an effect on these estimates, but suffice it to say that the prints will last many decades, and much longer than most traditional prints.

Print sizes may vary, depending on subject, capture device, etc. but most images are offered in 16x24” or 16x22”. Other common size offerings include 12x18” and 8x12”. Available sizes are listed under each image. Please inquire directly if you have special size requirements for any images.

Mats and Framing

Prints are priced to include conservation-quality archival double-mats and backing board; that is, the prints are matted and ready for framing. The materials used are the same as those used in fine galleries and museums. All materials are acid free, so will not expel gases that would be harmful to the print over time. Images are double-matted such that two mats are used with a one half inch difference in the cutout area between the front and rear mats. This helps to ensure that as the print expands and contracts it will not touch the glazing over the print. The mats are generally four inches wide on all sides (approximately 4 1/8”), but special requests for mat width can be accommodated.

Please note: Prints are matted so that the mat just covers the edge of the image. This means that any signature on the front will be covered by the mat. I am honored that you would hang my image in your home or business, and my signature being an exposed distraction is of little attraction, therefore I prefer to mat my images to best exhibit the image.

Simple gallery-style framing is available. I offer classic flat black and walnut-style brown wood frames with Acrylite glazing. This is offered as a service of convenience and my clients have told me (and I’ve confirmed) that there is significant savings over retail framing services if you prefer this classic framing style. However, your local framer can offer you additional selection and attentions if that’s more appropriate for your purposes.

Prices

Print prices and the sizes available for each image can be found in the section beneath each image in the portfolios section. This information is revealed by clicking the “Image Info” button just below the title, and then clicking the “About Prints” link while viewing the large version of any image in the portfolios sections. All prices include double-matting and backing with archival materials. Prices for the images with frame and glazing are included in the same price table. Please contact me for any additional information.

Shipping is charged at the actual cost dependent upon your location, your preferred carrier and your time requirements. Orders of multiple images receive special shipping cost adjustments (e.g. free to most U.S. locations via ground shipping, and discounted shipments to international destinations). Please inquire for details.

Licensing Images

Images may be licensed for your publishing needs. You may also like to check my Flickr stream for additional images not found on this site. Or feel free to ask if I have something which is not currently posted online – I plan to add a stock image gallery section when time allows. Price depends on the intended use, circulation, required image size, and frequency of insertion. Special considerations are offered to non-profit organizations, charities, churches, etc. If you would like to license an image for use in your design project please contact me to discuss how I may best serve you.
